Think of a full-featured image editor with templates for all types of CD, DVD, and Blu-ray disc labels and box inserts – that is what CD Label Designer looks like. This professional design tool provides you with all the tools you’ll ever need you to create outstanding labels, booklets, and sleeves for both your personal collection and your commercial projects. You can use the program’s extensive database of images and samples or develop your designs from scratch, add text, effects, and clipart, and print your covers and labels in the utmost quality.

As soon as you open CD Label Designer, you notice right away that you are facing a no-nonsense kind of tool. However, and though it is true that unlike many other much simpler disc labeling tools, CD Label Designer requires a certain learning curve, you’ll be surprised to find out how easy working with professional design tools can be when properly structured. Below the various menus and buttons, the black-colored main interface is divided into three panels (from left to right): backgrounds and other image samples, the main canvas, and the disc and cover templates together with the various editing features. Some functions open in a new window (such as the image, text, and shape editors), and any items you select and whatever changes you perform in them will be later transferred to the main canvas. This intermediate step, especially when it comes to adding text to your design, is the only feature that seems to add some unnecessary complexity to the whole process. While it may make sense when it comes to editing images, inserting and editing text and shapes directly into the design looks like a good way of simplifying the whole process.

The hardest part of designing a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray cover is to reproduce the dimensions of the label or insert accurately, so that they fit the corresponding disc and case. CD Label Designer removes that burden from you by providing a comprehensive list of label and case templates, including the front, inside, and back covers, the booklet, the sleeve, the disc itself, and the DVD or BD box (you’ll even find a bonus template for your business cards!). All the most common print layouts from all the most renowned manufacturers are there – Avery, Canon, Epson, Memorex, etc. – and all you have to do is choose the right one and start designing your labels. You can use your own images, select one of the backgrounds provided, and even look for pictures or for the original covers in Google Images using the app’s own browser. You can then apply all kinds of effects, cliparts, text, shapes, and styles to your creation, and even tell the program to create a track list for you.

The results will surely surprise you. It is worthwhile to spend some time checking the various features and options provided, and to take a look at the program’s help every now and then to make the most of its trickier functionality. CD Label Designer is both versatile and flexible, and giving it the right time it can be of use for both novice and more experienced users.
